How do TikTok Shop affiliate commission rates work?

A rundown of how commission rates are set on TikTok Shop.

Written by Michael Tona

Commission is the lever that decides how many creators want to promote your products. Here is how TikTok Shop commission rates work and how to set them.

Quick answer

On TikTok Shop, the brand sets the commission rate as a percentage of each sale a creator drives. There are two common types: an open or standard commission that any approved creator earns, and a targeted commission you offer specific creators at a higher rate. Rates vary widely by category and margin, often in the 10 to 30 percent range, and higher targeted rates are used to win top creators.

The two commission types

Open (standard) commission. A single rate available to any creator approved into your program. It is the baseline that shows in the affiliate marketplace.

Targeted commission. A higher rate you offer a specific creator, usually to recruit someone with strong sales in your category. This is how you compete for the creators everyone wants.

How to set a rate that works

Your commission has to leave you a margin after product cost, TikTok fees, and samples, but be high enough that a creator chooses your product over a competitor's. Look at what similar brands in your category offer, then use targeted commissions to go above that rate for the specific creators you most want.

Managing commissions at scale

When you are running dozens of creators with different targeted rates, tracking who is on what commission and what they earned gets complex. Hubfluence's affiliate CRM keeps every creator, their rate, and their GMV in one place, so you can see which commission levels actually pay back and adjust from there.
