What are Segments in Hubfluence?

A rundown of Segments and where they fit in your creator workflow.

Written by Michael Tona

Segments are smart, rule-based groups of creators. Instead of building a list by hand, you set the rules once and Hubfluence keeps the group current, then auto-routes those creators into an outreach sequence.

Quick answer

A Segment is a behavior-based group of creators that updates itself as their data changes (for example "creators who took a sample but never posted" or "everyone who drove over $5k last month"). Unlike a static list, a Segment is always current, which is what makes it safe to attach an outreach sequence to for automatic re-engagement. Smart Lists source new creators; Segments re-engage creators already in your program.

What a Segment actually is

A Segment is a behavior-based group that updates itself. You define the criteria, and any creator who matches drops into the Segment automatically as their data changes. Nobody has to remember to add or remove people. That is the difference from a one-time export or a static spreadsheet: a Segment is always current, which is what makes it safe to attach automation to.

What you can build with Segments

Most brands run Segments to catch creators who slipped through the cracks:

  • Creators who took a sample but never posted.

  • Creators who posted once and went quiet.

  • Creators who have not posted in 30+ days.

  • Creators who hit a GMV threshold but stopped engaging.

  • Creators who applied to a program but were not approved (warm leads for the next one).

Each of these is a group you would normally rebuild by hand every week. A Segment keeps it live so you can act on it any time.

How Segments work with Sequences

This is where Segments earn their keep. Build the Segment, attach an outreach sequence (a re-engagement message, a community invite, a product update, a new launch), and Hubfluence handles the messaging in the background. So instead of "we should follow up with the silent creators someday," it just happens. Sequences handle first-touch outreach, Segments handle re-engagement of creators you already know.

Segments vs Smart Lists

These two get mixed up, so here is the clean split. Smart Lists are saved from your Creator Database filters: you find creators by niche, GMV, and content style, then save that filter combination as a reusable list for outreach. Segments are grouped by behavior and built for re-engaging creators already in your program. In practice you use Smart Lists to source, Sequences to reach out, and Segments to automatically pull the right people back in based on what they did or did not do.

Managing Segments with AI

If you have the MCP integration connected to Claude or Codex, you can build, read, update, and delete Segments with plain-English commands. That means you can spin up a group like "creators who drove over $5k last month but have gone quiet" without touching the filters yourself.
