What is GMV on TikTok Shop?

A plain definition of GMV and why it matters on TikTok Shop.

Written by Michael Tona

GMV is the number almost every TikTok Shop tool and report is built around. Here is what it means and why it matters for your program.

Quick answer

GMV stands for gross merchandise value: the total sales value of all orders through your TikTok Shop over a period, before fees, refunds, and costs are taken out. It measures the total volume your shop moves, not your profit. On TikTok Shop, GMV is the headline metric for ranking creators, measuring campaigns, and sizing a program, because it shows how much sales activity a creator or shop is driving.

GMV is not profit

This is the most common mistake. GMV is top-line sales volume. Your actual profit is GMV minus product cost, TikTok fees, affiliate commission, samples, shipping, and refunds. A shop can have high GMV and thin profit if its margins or commissions are set poorly. Use GMV to measure activity and momentum, and margin to measure health.

Why GMV drives creator selection

When you evaluate creators, the strongest signal is the GMV they have driven for products like yours, not their follower count. A creator with 40,000 engaged shoppers can drive more GMV than one with a million passive followers. Good TikTok Shop tools score creators on real sales, so you recruit on GMV rather than vanity metrics.

Tracking GMV across your program

Hubfluence scores its 4M+ creator database on real sales and reports the GMV each creator drives for your shop, including Amazon and Shopify halo sales beyond the direct TikTok Shop link. That lets you rank creators, size campaigns, and prove what your program is actually moving.

Want to recruit creators on the GMV they actually drive instead of follower counts? Book a demo and we'll show you per-creator GMV, including Amazon and Shopify halo sales, across your whole program.
